Qualifications and Work Experience

1976 - 1981 - Attended Trent Law School and awarded BA in Legal Studies and then passed Solicitors Final Exam at College of Law

1985 following - Admitted as a solicitor following two years articles of clerkship. In my initial years I undertook a lot of family and employment work, civil litigation, medical negligence cases and non contentious work. Latterly I specialised in housing, community care, welfare rights, education and public/human rights law/judicial review and was a specialist supervisor and practice manager. I ceased practicing in 2007 to focus on judicial work.

2002 to date - Appointed as a Tribunal Judge to hear social security cases - mainly sitting in East and London

2006- 2012 - Occasional lecture at East London University and Southend College (affiliated to the Essex University)

July 2012 - Qualified at first attempt as a civil mediator at Regents College London (now Regents University).

October - December 2012 - Completed family mediation and MIAMs training at ADR Group.

2013 and 2014 - Completed Regents College co-mediation training.

February 2015 - Completed ADRg Civil/Commercial conversion course.

2016 Mediation CPD and mediations and observations undertaken - set out on separate list. I anticipate undertaking BIMA five day training in either March or May 2017.

In 2015 I was permitted to observe a full day SENDIST tribunal hearing relating to a child with severe learning difficulties.

I also have a basic alcohol licensing qualification.

Volunteer Experience

Between 1985 and 2005 - stints as voluntary advisor at various CABs and law centres and also at a student welfare organisation, a disabled persons organisation and a homelessness self help project - dealing with a wide variety of legal and related issues. Subsequently I have done lengthy voluntary stints as an advisor at Public Law Project, Terence Higgins Trust, the Royal Hospital at Putney and St. Mungo's.

July 2014 to November 2015 - governor/mediator at Raines Foundation (Secondary) School, Bethnal Green, East London.

2014-2016 - volunteer mediator at St. Mungos

November 2016 to date assistant coordinator of Tower Hamlets Mediation Service

July 2016 to date - volunteer mediator for the UK Permaculture organisation
